This 1700's British Blunderbuss was made by J. Richards - a late 17th early 18th century British military gunmaker.
Featured on this gun is a flip out bayonet, commonly equipped on guns for stagecoach protection or naval use. The spring on the flip bayonet is notably strong, a rare attribute among these original survivors.
The brass barrel is in excellent serviceable condition with minor engraving and strong proof house markings.
The lock functions well and the flint (while not original) does spark.
The barrel is 12 inches, and the overall length is 27.5 inches with the bayonet closed, making this piece a wonderful size for display.
There is some obvious wear markings from the centuries of use, but this gun is overall in fully functional shape.
